Lake Saimaa – a region of pure flavours

Savour the tastes of Lake Saimaa, where pure ingredients from forest and lake meet generations of culinary tradition

The Lake Saimaa region, awarded European Region of Gastronomy 2024, invites you to experience a food culture rooted in pure nature, local traditions and genuine hospitality. Forests and lakes provide ingredients such as wild berries, mushrooms, fresh fish and game, which are transformed into simple yet refined dishes across the region’s restaurants, manors and rural kitchens. From iconic Karelian pastries to freshly caught vendace, every flavour reflects the landscape, the seasons and the deep connection between people and nature.

DAY 1
Mikkeli – your first taste of Saimaa
