At Okkola’s Savolainen mustikkakukko (bilberry rye pie) workshop, you’ll learn the traditional craft of baking delicious rättänä pastries.
Step into an authentic Finnish countryside setting and discover how to bake the traditional Savonian blueberry rye pie, Savolainen mustikkakukko. This regional delicacy has received Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status from the EU, recognising its unique cultural heritage and local roots. Both beginners and experienced bakers are warmly welcome.
During the workshop, traditional blueberry rye pies are prepared from scratch, while stories and baking traditions are shared along the way. The experience takes place in a charming 18th-century log home, surrounded by peaceful countryside scenery. The dough is made together before shaping the base, edges and lid by hand, filling the pies with blueberries, and baking them in the traditional style. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, whether you are trying Finnish baking for the first time or refining existing techniques.
