Your adventure begins at Ristiina Boat Dock, located opposite the Astuva Rock Art Visitor Centre. From here, you'll board a RIB boat for an unforgettable cruise through the stunning Saimaa archipelago.

The Astuvansalmi Rock Paintings are among the largest and most significant prehistoric rock art sites in the Nordic countries. Dating back over 4,000–6,000 years, the paintings feature mysterious images of people, elk, handprints, and other ancient symbols created by Finland's early inhabitants.

Approaching the site from the water offers a unique perspective that cannot be experienced from land. As you glide along the same waterway used by prehistoric people, you'll understand why this dramatic cliff was chosen as a sacred place for these ancient paintings.

Explore the Ancient Cliffs

During the tour, you'll go ashore to admire the rock paintings up close while your guide shares fascinating stories about their history and meaning. You'll also discover the famous natural "rock face" formed in the cliff and experience the area's remarkable echo.
