Rakokallio Bedrock Crack

Rakokallio fissure is a natural wonder formed by ancient earthquakes in Sydänmaa hiking trail, Anttola.

Discover one of the most striking geological attractions in the Sydänmaa region: the Rakokallio fissure. Formed by ancient earthquakes, this impressive natural feature is now protected under the Nature Conservation Act, preserving its unique character for future generations.

Stretching nearly 100 metres in length, the fissure is a narrow crevice, just 0.5 to 1 metre wide, but plunges dramatically to depths of up to 10 metres. As you explore, you’ll notice the smooth, glistening rock walls shaped by geological forces long ago. The gorge is primarily composed of granite, with fascinating sections of migmatitic mica gneiss also visible.

Rakokallio is easily accessible along a marked nature trail, making it a perfect stop for hikers and nature enthusiasts. It is the highlight of the 5 km Sydänmaa hiking trail, which winds through peaceful forest landscapes. Along the way, you can also visit the Metsomäki viewpoint, where a scenic hilltop panorama opens up over endless stretches of forest.

For a relaxing break, head to the shores of Lake Mäkilampi, where you’ll find a cozy lean-to shelter.

Whether you're looking for adventure, tranquility, or breathtaking views, Rakokallio and the Sydänmaa trail offer an unforgettable outdoor experience.
